Sharing couple of thoughts about shooting at Tallinn Fashion Week 23.-26. October 2014. Photographically speaking shooting catwalk models walking in spotligh on dark backround is not just exercise in contrast. Its also keeping subtle black details visible on black backrounds without loosing those highlighted skintones. Mainly exercise on exposure and dynamic range. One important tip to remember here – know your cameras sensor limits on dynamic range and set your exposure accordingly. This is one of the few things where you are in charge.
Dont forget choosing your own viewpoint (if it is possible) …
… and choose composition that conveys your intention.
Good lighting is always your best friend helping to reveal contours and texture.
Here it comes again – black fur on black backround with blonde hair.
Even with white eyes.
Whitch leads us to white subtle details on spotlight. We know it is even harder to get details and textures back from overexposured areas.
No mistakes allowed on exposure again because every fabric has plenty of those subtle details.
So thank you and goodbye Tallinn Fashion Week with over 30 models and over 120 meter long catwalk stage in The Seaplane Hangars.
Shot with Nikon D750, Nikkor 70-200mm f/2,8G ED VR II, Nikkor 300MM F4D IF-ED AF-S.
